Where to stay in Queenstown

Queenstown is small, outdoor-focused and expensive in peak season. The town centre is walkable, but the surrounding settlements offer more space and a different view of the lake.

Neighbourhoods at a glance

Queenstown town centre

The most convenient base for restaurants, the gondola and tour pickups. It is compact and lively, with the highest rates and the most noise.

Frankton

Close to the airport and the supermarkets, with easier parking and lower rates. It is practical for a road trip, but a drive from the town-centre buzz.

Fernhill and Sunshine Bay

Quiet lake views a short drive from town. Good for a longer stay or a family group with a car, but the walk back up the hill is steep.

Lake Hayes and Arrowtown

A slower, more scenic base for wine and walking. You will need a car for everything, but the setting is quieter than the centre.
