Where to stay in Hobart

Hobart is small enough to explore on foot, but the choice between the waterfront, Battery Point and the suburbs shapes how much of the city you see without a car.

Neighbourhoods at a glance

Hobart waterfront and CBD

The most practical base for a short trip, with the docks, markets and museums close together. Ferries to MONA and the Tasman Peninsula leave nearby.

Battery Point

Historic cottages, quiet streets and a short walk to the waterfront. It is charming and expensive, with limited large-hotel choice.

North Hobart

A restaurant strip and a more everyday neighbourhood feel, a short bus or walk from the centre. Rates are often lower than the waterfront.

Sandy Bay

Leafy, residential and close to the university and the beach. Good for a longer stay or a family visit, but less convenient for early tours.
