Where to stay in Gold Coast

The Gold Coast is a string of beach suburbs rather than one city centre. Surfers Paradise is the busiest, Broadbeach is calmer, and Burleigh has the most local feel.

Neighbourhoods at a glance

Surfers Paradise

The classic high-rise strip: beach, nightlife and everything within walking distance. It suits travellers who want action, but can be noisy and crowded in school holidays.

Broadbeach

A softer version of Surfers, with a wide beach, cafes and a large shopping centre. Good for families and anyone who wants the beach without the late-night bustle.

Burleigh Heads

The relaxed end of the coast, backed by a national park and a strong cafe scene. It feels more like a beach town and less like a resort strip.

Main Beach and Southport

Main Beach is quieter and pricier; Southport is practical and close to the tram. Both work for travellers who want space from the busiest blocks.
