Where to stay in Brisbane

Brisbane bends around the river, and the best base depends on whether you want business convenience, parkland or nightlife. The airport train makes the centre unusually easy for a short stay.

Neighbourhoods at a glance

CBD and Riverside

Central, practical and well connected, with the airport train, ferries and the river walk close by. It is the simplest choice for a one- or two-night stop.

South Bank

Green, walkable and family-friendly, with the cultural precinct and a man-made beach. Serviced apartments are common, and the walk into the centre is short.

Fortitude Valley

The nightlife and live-music district, with cheaper rooms and a more independent feel. Expect noise on weekends and check the walk to the train station.

Kangaroo Point and West End

Quieter, close to the river and full of cafes. Good for travellers who want a local base and do not mind a bus or ferry into the centre.
