Where to stay in Auckland

Auckland spreads around two harbours, with the city centre at the narrowest point. The CBD suits a short trip, while the inner suburbs and the North Shore offer more space.

Neighbourhoods at a glance

Auckland Central and the waterfront

The most practical base, with the Sky Tower, ferries and the main transport hub nearby. It is busy on weekdays and convenient for day trips.

Parnell and Newmarket

Leafy, walkable and close to the domain and shopping. It feels more residential than the CBD and is still within easy reach of the centre.

Ponsonby and Grey Lynn

Cafes, bars and a strong local character, a short bus ride from the centre. Good for travellers who prioritise food and neighbourhood life.

Devonport and the North Shore

A ferry ride from the centre, with beaches and a village feel. It is quieter and scenic, but the commute matters if you are sightseeing every day.
